The answer for the New York Mets is, “Yes it can”. This is now a classic bad team — when they pitch well, they can’t hit. When they hit, their pitchers let them down. The starters look good, the pen fails. They hit .319 w RISP, then go 1-7.

It’s tempting to blame this on Collins, but look at who he has to rely on. Pill, Milone, Smoker. Now Addison Reed, who won’t look at video, stinks. Cespedes has more quad tightness and won’t be back as soon as hoped. Would you be surprised if Matz or Lugo has a setback in their rehab?

Meanwhile, the Yanks roll on. Better starting pitching than anticipated, a juggernaut lineup that might get better with their best prospect moving up the chain and Greg Bird due back soon. It seems that everything we thought we knew about the world has been turned on its ear. Is God laughing at us?
