Divorce has touched all of us, either directly, or through parents or friends.
It is fundamentally one of the worst experiences in life. To many, it represents a rejection of one’s entire being. The person closest to you has decreed they no longer love you, or maybe worse, still do love you but can’t stand to live with you. Or they have found someone they want more and you no longer measure up.
That is the starting point for my new Riley King mystery. A man has been shattered by his wife’s abandonment and seeks retribution.
King gets involved when this casual acquaintances begs for his help after he claims he has accidentally killed his new fiancée’s sister.
Everyone around King believes the man is guilty of intentionally murdering the victim and is determined to make him pay. Riley seeks the truth, wherever it leads. It alienates him from those closest to him, with tragic results.
Although it was not my original intent, the book explores key aspects of today’s culture along its rocky course. It forces a great deal of self examination by my protagonist, which leads him to a precarious place.
I think you’ll enjoy ‘The Perfect Beast’ and hope you will review it honestly after you’ve read it. Word of mouth is vital to the Riley King series.
My thanks to Don Henley for inspiring the title.
