The “celebration” in Philly was reprehensible. Why should cars be overturned, property destroyed, and fires started because 45 guys you’ll never meet win a football game? I saw people trashing Tom Brady in disgusting fashion, a man who has accomplished more in his life than they ever will. A commercial suggesting he cheated and his reward was sleeping with a supermodel.

It dawned on me that pro sport has devolved into wrestling. Trash talk, me me me celebrations, taunting injured opponents. Good guys wear white, bad guys are pure evil, everything they touch is the work of the devil. And yes, we in the media are complicit. The Giants are dealing with OBJ’s selfish theatrics, causing some fans to want him traded. So what do we do? Laugh at an over the top commercial making Eli Manning a part of it. And it makes the back page of the Post.

I admit I walked out of the halftime show after the first number. Old fart that I am, I can’t call that music. Sorry.

The NFL has to get it’s rules together. Two calls on TD plays went against the Pats and decided the game. If you were a Steelers’ fan, that had to burn. No more saying the Pats get all the breaks from the officials, although some New Englanders may claim the opposite is true, since both could have gone either way and Goodell was secretly pleased not to deal with Kraft and Brady after the game.

I must agree with Bob Costas. It was a dramatic game, very engrossing, but the carnage aspect is not cause for celebration. Because Cooks took a couple of steps after a catch, he’s not entitled to protection from a cheap shot to the head that knocked him out of the game? And maybe affected the outcome. Oh, but it was clean, according to the rules. But was it necessary to maim the guy, instead of just tackle him.?

Baseball has its problems too, but it remains much more civilized. But as a country, we’re headed the other way. Bread and circuses.
