The Giants are playing it really smart with Odell Beckham, Jr. By allowing it to leak that the price for the talented wideout in a trade would be two first rounders, they are telling Beckham’s people that they’re willing to move him, but only for a premium. Since the player has no control over where he will be sent , OBJ risks getting shipped off to somewhere he’d rather not be.
If it’s the Rams, he might be overjoyed. He has a house in LA, and the glitz and glamour of Hollywood would likely appeal to him. But what if it’s Minnesota or Atlanta, or some other city with a smaller media presence?
OBJ might be better off tempering his salary demands and agreeing to stay in NY with an incentive laden deal. That’s what the Giants are hoping for, along with a promise to act in a more mature fashion. But if that’s not in the cards, they’ve established a price they’d consider and if someone steps up, they might do the deal. It will hurt them short term, but could benefit the franchise over the long run. Stay tuned.
