I thought Alex did a nice job on the Mets-Angels game last night. He doesn’t have the greatest voice, but he speaks well and has insights into today’s players from a contemporary standpoint that some veterans further removed from the game don’t have. Whatever his real persona is, his media presence is that of a modest, intelligent observer. He can sound like he’s coaching players at times, partly because of his dual role as Yankee “instructor” and independent broadcaster. There are still some rough edges and if you hate the guy for what he did, you’ll never accept him. But I think given a chance and some good coaching, he can be a nice lead analyst someday.
