With the NY Giants at 0-5 and missing their best player for the rest of the season, is it time for Big Blue to quit? Of course, players play to win and will continue to do so. But will the organization start making moves for the future, conceding the present?
Going into the season, New Yorkers were staring down the barrel of an 0-16 season for the Jets, who currently are tied with the Pats for the division lead. Their fans might accept an awful season if it promised to deliver them one of college football’s elite quarterbacks. With some difficult games coming up, they may still be on that road.
But the Giants? I thought they could be 11-5 this season and contend for a championship. Wrong-em, boyo. Now looking at a trip to Denver and a tough schedule the rest of the way, 5-11 even looks optimistic, especially with all the injuries to their wideouts. Do they draft a QB, even though they still have Eli and Webb might prove a worthy successor? Or can they find that stud left tackle or linebacker, picking in the first five?
A bigger question is does Jerry Reese maintain the right to make that decision? And if you bring in a new GM, does McAdoo survive? I for one, had no clue that we’d be talking about this in early October.
