Four close games. A couple of road wins. No huge surprises, unless you count the Titans’ big comeback against KC.. I admit, I had written the Mariotas off at halftime and had concert tix, so I missed the fireworks. Let’s see if they can hang tough against the Pats this weekend.
The least interesting game was Buffalo-Jacksonville. Great defense or inept offense…take your pick. Unless you’re a big fan of either of these teams, this was a snore.
LA Rams vs. the defending NFC champs was a good one. Defense and experience won out over a young squad that surprised during the season. Gurley and Goff were held in check, and the Falcs road to SB 52 goes through Philly and then Minnesota.
Not so fast. The Saints defense is much improved and even though Carolina stuffed their running game, Brees showed why he is still great with some big throws. I’d question some officials’ calls on the final Carolina drive. If Gano had made his first FG attempt, he would have been kicking a short one to win the game had things stayed the same. Newton needs better receivers and the Panthers secondary and pass rush need tweaking to take them from very good to great. A terrific game, great capper for the weekend.
The coming weekend is usually the best of the year. Can Philly win with Foles? Is Case Keenum that good? Jacksonville picked Big Ben 5 times earlier this year, so don’t rule them out. Bring it on.
