The Yankees are good enough to win the World Series.
Now that it’s settled that the Yanks will be the first AL wild card team and host the Twins at the Stadium Tuesday night, it’s a good time to look ahead to what just could be another great run.
Check out the position players. A monster right fielder, a slugging catcher, a worthy successor to Jeter at short. It goes on and on, the only shaky spot being third base, where Gleybar Torres awaits, as soon as next year. Age in the outfield? Here comes Clint Frazier.
Even the rotation, a question mark going into a season when most of us had them winning 85 or fewer games, is solid. A true young ace in Severino, Gray a fine number two, Tanaka pitched like an ace Friday and Sabathia continues to impress into his dotage. Montgomery had a fine rookie year.
And how many teams want to face Robertson, Betances and Chapman at the end of games?
I’m not saying they will be World Champs when all is said and done this year. But they have a decent shot. And for the next five years? Chance Adams or a couple of mid line starters added to the staff. Perhaps a complimentary bat. This team is young and exciting. Set up to win now and the future. Stuff happens, but Brian Cashman has built a long term winner, and he didn’t do it solely with his checkbook.
