It’s tempting to write the Yankees off after a pair of 2-1 losses to the Astros, putting them down 0-2 in the ALCS. We can cite odds forever on how many 0-2 teams have come back to win a series, but these stats are meaningless.
The bottom line is that both teams have pitched extremely well. The league’s two highest scoring and most prolific home run teams have been throttled by great pitching. The difference in the series comes down to execution. The Astros have made the bang bang plays, the Yanks have fallen just short. Bird out at the plate, Altuve safe. Simple as that.
I believe the Yanks have a matchup advantage, pitching-wise, at the Stadium. The home run bats will come alive again. Whereas Houston may be a marginally better team, a couple of breaks and better execution should put the Bombers right back in this series. But if it does eventually come down to a Game 7, will the Yanks be able to make plays on the road to prevail?
