Here’s a little background on The Punch List, released today. It was originally planned to be the fourth in the series, but on the advice of my writing guru, I put The Last Resort out first, since it concentrated on a radio shock jock, which was more topical at the time.
In this book, Riley King has decided to leave Charlotte behind and move to the paradise of Hilton Head Island in semi-retirement. But an old nemesis in a new shape, a dirty cop, rears his head. He is forced into defending himself and his bodacious former lover, even though she wants nothing to do with him. Added to the mix — the mysterious Moses Ginn. A powerful man who might be a friend and protector or a lethal foe.
It’s the best Riley King I’ve written. He’s a man who wants out, but is pulled back in, to quote Michael Corleone. As with all the books in the series, it stands on its own but if you are a stickler for staying in sequence, try The Master Builders first, since many of the characters originate there. I’ve also included a bonus in this edition of The Punch List  — King’s Christmas, the Riley King short story previously only available in digital form.
There is another King book in the pipeline, ready for later this year. Then a stand-alone called The Folksinger, about a singer/songwriter trying to recapture his former glory.
